What is a Fraternal organization
The Grange is a fraternity called the "Patrons of Husbandry". The Grange was modeled after the Masonic lodge and in response to providing a political and economic voice for the agricultural sector after the Civil War. It was structured around the idea of maintaining an estate with an Master, Overseer, Steward, Lecturer, etc. Grange comes from Granary.
Most fraternal members are of the 4th degree but can go as high as the 7th. There are 12 Granges in Humboldt County and 180 in California. There are about 5,000 Granges across the country. Check out the Grange History page.
